Turning Onboarding Speed Into a Competitive Weapon
How an enterprise market-data provider cut client onboarding from months to weeks — and started winning deals on speed.
Cusomer Profile

An enterprise market-data and analytics provider selling pricing, reference and specialist datasets — delivered as APIs and feeds — to buy-side and sell-side clients. It competes against larger, established vendors, and increasingly wins or loses on how quickly it can stand up a new client.

Business Challenge

Winning a client meant understanding their requirements, finding the relevant datasets inside the provider’s own sprawling estate, mapping fields to the client’s needs, building the transformations, and delivering the feeds and APIs. End to end, this typically took several months. Prospects were being lost not on data quality or price, but on time-to-value — competitors who could onboard faster simply got there first. Onboarding speed had become the deciding factor in the sales cycle, and the provider was on the wrong side of it.

Why Traditional Approaches Fell Short

Each client implementation was run as a bespoke consulting engagement, starting largely from scratch. A surprising share of the elapsed time went not on the client’s data but on the provider’s own: simply locating the right internal datasets across years of accumulated products could take weeks, because no one held a complete map of what the company already had. Institutional knowledge of the data estate was fragmented across teams, so every implementation rediscovered the same ground. Adding headcount did not fix the underlying problem — the bottleneck was knowledge, not hands.

How DataSync was Implemented

DataSync built a searchable knowledge graph of the provider’s entire data estate — a single, queryable map of what data exists and how it relates. When a new client requirement comes in, DataSync’s agents identify the relevant internal datasets, map them to the requirements, generate the transformation logic and accompanying documentation, and produce the specification the delivery team uses to stand up the feeds and APIs. Each implementation enriches the knowledge graph, so the next one is faster still, and integrations are maintained as the underlying data changes.

Business Outcomes

In the customer’s words

“We used to lose deals because someone could onboard a client faster than we could. Now our implementation speed is one of the first things we put in front of a prospect — it has become one of our biggest competitive advantages.”

About DataSync

DataSync is an AI platform for data migration and integration projects. Its agents analyse source systems, generate and maintain field-level mappings and transformation logic, surface data-quality issues, and produce the validated specification, governance and lineage documentation that engineering teams build from — turning work that once took months of manual analysis into weeks.

DataSync is a product of Blackstone DataSync Ltd, registered in England & Wales. To see how it could accelerate your next data project, visit datasync-ai.com or contact the team for a demonstration.
